Apple Watch Surpassed The Entire Swiss Watch Industry In Q4 Of 2017

Stats from Apple never seize to amaze us. With the introduction of the Apple Watch, we are seeing a transitional phase where users are preferring to buy smartwatches rather than the standard analog Swiss watches. While many people might have their choices and opinions on the two different types of watches, stats show that the Apple Watch outsold the complete industry of Swiss watches in Q4 of last year.

Apple Watch Was Shipped More Than The Entire Swiss Watch Industry In Q4 of 2017

Back when Apple mentioned the results for its Q4 2017, it stated that the Apple Watch had its best year with the Apple Watch Series 3 selling twice the numbers of the Series 2. This is a pretty serious and major milestone achieved by the company which would have surely contributed to the overall revenue of the company.

As per the Canalys, which is an analytics firm, the company shipped a total of 18 million Apple Watch units in 2017 alone. In an extension to this, 8 million out of the total was sold in Q4 alone. This is an increase of 32 percent year over year. However, the increase in demand was made possible by the new features that Apple made part of its smartwatch.

“The cellular version of the Apple Watch was in strong demand in the US, Japan and Australia, where all major operators stocked it in time for the holiday season,” said Vincent Thielke, Research Analyst at Canalys. The Apple Watch Series 3 is the fastest-selling LTE wearable on the market, with shipments doubling quarter on quarter to reach 1.6 million. “But limited operator selection in the UK, Germany and France influenced consumer purchase decisions, and stifled the growth potential of the connected Apple Watch. Moving into new markets, such as Singapore and Hong Kong in Q1 2018, just in time for Chinese New Year, is a good move,” added Thielke.

For instance, LTE connectivity of the Apple Watch was pretty high in demand in the United States, Japan as well as Australia. Apart from this, Apple Watch Series 3 is the fastest selling LTE wearable in the market with shipments expected to cross 1.6 million units for this quarter. Do take note that the numbers mentioned are comparatively less due to the fact that the wearable was only available in limited units. Further shipments in Singapore and Hong Kong would boost the numbers.

As we have mentioned earlier, Apple Watch has surpassed the sales of the major Swiss watch manufacturers that includes the likes of Omega, Rolex and Swatch combined in Q4 of last year.
