How can you prevent someone else from listening to your messages on HomePod [Guide]

Apple’s HomePod is designed to be a smart speaker from the ground up that works seamlessly with Apple Music. Since it is able to run Siri, it will be able to do a list of things that you did not think were possible. This will range from the following:

  • Reading messages
  • Replying to messages
  • Taking notes
  • Add reminders

How can you prevent someone else from listening to your messages on HomePod [Guide]

Unfortunately, Apple’s HomePod is unable to distinguish two people’s voices and we feel that if this issue is not addressed right now then it will be with a future software update, or with a brand new product. In short, what this means is that literally, anybody will be able to walk into your home and reply to the last message or add a reminder that you did not want to be present in the first place.

So how do you prevent this? By turning off the Personal Requests feature.

You can do this by going to your HomePod settings in the Home app.

Getting there is going to be difficult. If you haven’t yet set up your HomePod, tap on Not Now when you get to the Personal Requests page.

  1. Open the Home app on the iPhone or iPad you used for setting up the HomePod.
  2. Tap on the Add Home button in the top right. It looks like a little location icon.
  3. Tap on your Profile picture.
  4. Tap on Personal Requests.
  5. Tap on the toggle next to Personal Requests option to turn the feature off.

By turning off Personal Requests, no one will be able to manipulate your HomePod in any manner.
