Samsung’s Galaxy S9 And Galaxy S9+ Are Officially Launched, Here’s Every Detail That You Should Know

After resting in the rumor mill for quite a long time, the Galaxy S9 and its bigger variant, the Galaxy S9+ is officially announced by Samsung. The smartphones mostly featured what we were already seeing in leaks plus some extra goodies. However, the design of the device is carried forward from last year’s Galaxy S8. So let’s see what the flagship duo have in store for us.

Galaxy S9 And Galaxy S9+ Are Finally Here, Featuring An All-Round Improvement

There are pretty major upgrades in terms of software and features added to the device. However, the external hardware of the device remains the same apart from minor incremental variations.

Device’s Performance

In terms of performance, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ both feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset which based on the second generation of 10nm processor. While it bolsters several features on the device, the main aspect would be amplified graphics performance. With four Kryo Gold and four Kryo Silver cores, the processor will boast higher performance while being energy efficient at the same time.

Apart from this, the device also features Adreno 630 GPU which scores higher in terms of graphics compared to Samsung’s Exynos 9810 and Apple’s A11 Bionic chip. Nonetheless, performance would lack behind in the same comparison. In terms of RAM, the Galaxy S9 features 4, while the Galaxy S9+ features 6GB of RAM.

Battery Life

The battery life is another major aspect in which the smaller of the two features a 3,000mAh cell while the bigger device includes a 3,500mAh battery cell. Even though the battery capacity is similar to its predecessor, the battery efficiency would deliver boosted screen on times.

Display Specifications

In terms of the display technology, the device features a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED panel on the Galaxy S9 and the same panel in a 6.2-inch display configuration for the Galaxy S9+. Do take note that the top and bottom bezels are ever so slightly smaller than its predecessor so that’s basically a plus.

The display resolution is 1440 x 2960 depicts an 18:5:9 aspect ratio. In addition to this, the display also features pressure-sensitive technology under the panel, much like the iPhone’s 3D Touch. The Home button is pressure-sensitive, embedded under the screen. The best part is that the device also features an SD card slot. You also can’t see the Iris scanner as well, the company has hidden it under the skin of the phone to add to its beauty.

Camera Department

We have mentioned many times that the camera has featured a shiny new upgrade in the Galaxy S9 and the S9+. The company has introduced the industry to dual-aperture co-existing side by side which will allow for better low-light photography and much more.

The smaller variant features a 12MP for the Galaxy S9 and 12+12MP for the Galaxy S9+. There are certain features that are only exclusive to the S9+ which we will detail later on. The dual aperture allows the device to shift between f/1.5 and f/2.4 depending on the amount of light present on the scene.

In addition to this, the device is capable of recording 960 fps Super slow-mo video at 720p resolution. So this is a pretty welcome change as well. 4K video can be shot at 60 fps. Moreover, AI plays an important role in the slow-mo video as well. The device will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB of storage variants in Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue, and the new Lilac Purple.

Miscellaneous

The fingerprint now has been repositioned, situated under the camera module for ease of access. This is a neat alteration as the previous iteration disallowed users to locate it perfectly.

Moreover, it seems Samsung is the only device that is reluctant to offer a headphone jack as Google has already ditched it with its second generation of Pixel devices. The device also features dual speakers, AR Emoji, Smarter Bixby, Enhanced Dex Pad support, security improvements, and much more.

Competitive Pricing

Surprisingly enough, Samsung is not charging heavily for its flagship devices. The prices are competitive as Google and Apple have set high standards but the company is looking to secure its place in the market. The company is charging $720 for the S9 while the S9+ will cost you $840. However, the prices might vary from region to region. In addition to this, if you’re opting to get the device through a carrier, you will be charged more than what the company is charging.
