LG 34UC89G-B G-SYNC™ Ultrawide Monitor Review

LG's first ultrawide G-sync monitorHere at PGB we always review products to let our readers decide themselves if a particular product is worth the money. We have done a well-researched review for LG 34UC89G-B to see if it is a good gaming monitor worth buying by its features, price and comparing to other similar monitors in the market.

Nvidia G-SYNC™

The 34UC89G-B is LG’s first G-Sync monitor and is a treat for gamers, as monitor functions without lag and less stutter resulting in a flawless experience and at the same time, it diminishes the input lag. This is mainly done by synchronization of the frame rate of the card to the refresh rate of the monitor.

166Hz Refresh rate:

The LG 34UC89G-B monitor has currently the fastest refresh rate of 144HZ and overclockable up to 166Hz. It offers a distinctly clear and uninterrupted visual which refresh rates of 60HZ, and 75 HZ fail to present. It surely cants thin your patience as it flashes with a quick response time of 5ms.

Efficient Crosshair:

Those times have flown when the sniper was just too close to you and you would not be able to aim at the correct position! Now with LG 34UC89G, you don’t require any tapes or water makers to find a reference. The facility of the crosshair allows you to fix the taken screenshots with the improved precisions.

Greater Onscreen control:

On-Screen Control lets you smoothly regulate all the OSD (On-Screen Display) settings like contrast, brightness, volume and similar characteristics on the desktop application. By hosting such useful window, LG parcels out quick and simple access. The assistance of few clicks push keys like screen split 2 which divides the monitor screen into various layouts.

Stimulating color accuracy and IPS

Combined with a screen technology of IPS panel, LG 34UC89G promises a perfect 178-degree span of angle paired with a clear 8-bit color pattern. The color displayed stretches 99% of the RGB palette, adapting the monitor screen to be used professionally for demanding work.

Useful Black Stabilizer

It owns engaging Game Mode and powerful Black stabilizer feature. Such are acute features essential for a gameplay. For instance, it provides an edge to the gamers in the dark scenes by activating black stabilizer which benefits the player by surfacing intricate details.

Screen Resolution

When flipping the other side of the review, LG monitors disappoints a bit in resolution. It displays a screen resolution of 2560×1080 which constitutes a pixel density numbering 81.72 pixels per inch.

Lower display resolution results in higher frame rates in games and ultimately improving your gaming performance. That is why I believe it could be the only reason why LG has opted for 1080 instead of 1440. Additionally, LG is marketing as a gaming monitor on the sale page.

Price

LG 34UC89G-B will cost a bomb and will hurt your pocket. Currently, at the time of writing of this review, it is listed on Amazon.com for around 1092.99 USD and for a gaming PC might not be too much for the avid and rich gamers.

If anytime soon the prices of LG 34UC89G-B dips and it gets on sale then you must not surely miss the chance of owning it right away!

Design

It merges a smooth arched body, giant curved display, greater screen and super narrow bezel with an array of vibrant colors display of panel.

Connectivity

There are two downstream USB 3.0 ports embedded in this monitor.Whereas for input options, the 34UC89G-B dispenses HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort 1.2 connectors.

Comparison with similar Monitors

Other similar Ultrawide gaming monitors from the manufacturer like Acer and  Asus have kind of similar specs, features, and prices.

  • Asus ROG PG348Q (Curved IPS, G-Sync, Resolution 3440 x 1440, 100Hz refresh rate)
  • Acer Predator 34 (Curved IPS, G-Sync, Resolution 3440 x 1440, 60Hz refresh rate overclocking up to 100Hz)

As you can from the above simple comparison for 34-inch Ultrawide Gaming monitors, both Asus and Acer have similar specs, price, size but both having QHD resolution but are quite behind LG 34UC89G when it comes Refresh rate.

So Should You Buy This Monitor?

LG 34UC89G is currently the fastest Ultrawide 34-inch gaming monitor in the world. It has everything that gaming enthusiasts can dream of in a gaming monitor, you’ve got 34-inch curved IPS LED display, G-Sync, a Response rate of 5ms, and Refresh rate of up to 166Hz.

If gaming is my only mission right now I would definitely go for it else if you consume lots HD content like Movies and video production then I would definitely choose between Acer Predator 34 or Asus ROG PG348Q as they are both in the same price range.
