Asus ROG Swift PG258Q Preview: The First Monitor with 240Hz Refresh Rate
At CES 2017, Asus previewed their latest display for avid gamers. If you were looking for the latest and greatest gaming monitor available on the market right now, then the new Asus ROG Swift is definitely made for you. The all-new 24.5-inch PG258Q was announced late last year but was recently showcased at CES a few days ago. It features an industry-first 240Hz native refresh rate panel.
Yes, you read that right; the monitor has a native refresh rate of 240Hz for the smoothest experience ever. The only downside to buying this monitor is that it only has a resolution of 1920×1080 and the viewing angles aren’t very great. This is due to the display uses a Twisted Nematic panel instead of an In-Plane Switching or ‘IPS’ panel which would instead offer 178-degree viewing angles.
From everything written above, you must now be thinking that why was this monitor made. Well, the answer lies in two facts: The price and the speed. This fastest monitor will only be priced at $500. The panel is also the fastest amongst all the monitors ever made as even the fastest monitors could not achieve this in the past even with overclocking.
Apart from all this, the panel also features a 1ms response rate and the Nvidia G-Sync technology. Both these things combined with the fast refresh rate ensure a stutter free gaming experience and make this monitor one of the best for gamers in particular for e-sports players.
For the ports, it has a display port, an HDMI port and a USB 3.0 hub to connect other devices. Also, it has the distinctive ROG look and feels with the Armor Titanium and Plasma Copper color scheme. The stand also features tilt, height and pivot adjustments and there also is a joystick to manage the on-screen controls.
All in all, if you have a very powerful PC which can provide comparable frame rates to the monitor’s refresh rate and want to have the fastest and smoothest experience while gaming, without worrying about the relatively low resolution of 1080p, then this display is meant for you.
